Wham! Bam! Pow!
Comic Book Movie Awards 2014
Welcome to the first
ever Wham! Bam! Pow! Comic Book Movie Awards!
As I told you in my
previous post, this one's an award for the big summer films that just might not
make it into my Underdog list because they're not small films and also have
great critical acclaim. So let's see what will happen early next year when the
Underdog Awards play. For now though we have these awards to satisfy my
blogging needs.
So let's just get to
it with the awards. The first award of the day is...
Wham! Bam! Pow!
Award for Exciting Future Comic Book Movie
The Avengers: Age of
Ultron
We've got the first
look of the menacing Ultron, we know what the trailer is like and we all have
faith in our man Joss Whedon. The Avengers reunion sounds like and looks like
to be the typical sequel formula; BIGGER, BETTER AND MORE BOMBASTIC!
So there's nothing
else to say
Batman vs. Superman:
Dawn of Justice
Despite all the
hoopla about the casting and the idea to turn this into a Justice League movie,
there's no denying every single person will be heading to the cinemas on
release day.
Come on, it's Batman
and Superman on screen for the first time ever. Throw in Wonder Woman, Aquaman
and maybe a whole host of other Leaguers, then this one's a recipe for
excitement if not success.
Plus all you need to
see is the leaked teaser for the film with Bat's confronting Supes and your
convinced.
X-Men: Apocalypse
If nobody will say
it, then I will; Days of Future Past was the best superhero movie (alongside
Dark Knight) of all time. So to see the returning team of writer Simon
Kinsberg, director Bryan Singer and the eclectic cast alongside hopeful
newbie's will be one hell of a treat.
Plus this time it's
not humans or Magneto taking center stage as villain, but rather the daunting
Darwinian follower in Apocalypse. The mutant god will be one hell of a foe for
both Charles X-Men and Magneto to defeat.
News of recasting
former trilogy cast members as youngsters and more Wolverine excite. If not
anything else, at least will get to see
another era and another rift of confrontations between James McAvoy and Michael
Fassbender.
Guardians of The
Galaxy 2
Whether it be about
Quill's father or taking down the rising threat of Thanos, Guardians two
promises to be another treat under the tutelage of the electric James Gunn.
The first film was a
hoot and we'll see if the second can continue the roller coaster ride that
Marvel is having. Plus this could prove to be this generations Star Wars.
Captain America 3
Despite the fact
that a lot of fans are hopped up on Guardians, Captain America: The Winter
Soldier is indeed the better film of the two and possibly the best in the MCU.
It's status quo changing plot, has made many a people excited for The Avengers
future as well as SHIELD.
The Russo brothers
promise a lot more change with the third film and with BvS moving from the
release date of the two, Cap has a higher chance of success. Rumors float from
storylines, to how the hunt to find Bucky will go to the most shocking that Cap
3 will have Cap with his own team of Avengers.
This one's really
intriguing.
And the Winner is...
Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice
Wham! Bam! Pow!
Award for Most Tantalizing Tease
'Sinister Six' The
Amazing Spider-Man 2
Even though people
really hated this film, the exciting news from it was that a whole host of
Spidey villains would be making it onto the screens in the first ever all
Supervillain film; The Sinister Six. Question is; what will they be doing?
Within the credits
itself, Sony cheekily revealed who the members in the six just might be
including Dane DeHaan's chilling portrayal of Goblin.
'Age of
Miracles' Captain America: The Winter Soldier
While we don't
really get a tease for Ultron himself, the Cap sequel's post credits stinger
divulges details on three other pieces involved in next years big sequel.
These being the
villainous Baron Von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann) of HYDRA, who might have a
lot more to do in future films (read Cap 3) along with Mutants Miracles Scarlet
Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and MCU's Quicksilver (Aaron Johnson). These two will
be quite a thorn for our heroes and will open up new possibilities for the MCU
(hopefully this means the Inhumans).
'En-Sabah-Nur' X-Men: Days of Future Past
If the new X-Men
film blew you away, then the teaser at the end was heart attack inducing for
any comic fan. It was a moment of pure awesomeness to not only witness the
power of a young Apocalypse (imagine what he'll do as he grows older) but also
to have glimpse of his Four Horsemen.
Pure glee rushes
through me as I think what an epic comic book villain he will make for the
X-Men on film.
'Not Terran'
Guardians of The Galaxy
For comic fans this
wasn't such a shocking moment and even intelligent viewers would have caught on
quick that there was more to Peter than we knew. Yet what shocks is that unlike
in the comics, Emperor J'Son might not be Peter's father in the movies. Instead
as the Nova Corps puts it, it's an ancient race of beings.
What makes this
intriguing is that it adds a lot of weight and material for Quill if the sequel
chooses to follow this path and gives him a defined arc from now. So it'll will
be fun to see where this little snippet of information takes our new heroes.
'My Mom knew Someone
like that' X-Men: Days of Future Past
Not many fans were
happy when Quicksilver was shown and announced to be part of the past in the
new X-Men film. Yet he went on to steal the show in a brilliant scene.
The icing on the
cake was one thing fans didn't expect, for Bryan Singer to acknowledge that
Quicksilver like in the comics might just be Magneto's son. Go watch that scene
again and carefully see Michael Fassbender's face, it reveals quite a lot of
fun information that hopefully results in Quickie being part of the next
film.
And the winner is...
'En Sabah Nur' X-Men: Days of Future Past
So that's it for
now, stay tuned for the next set of awards
Up Next: Geek movie
galore and the epicness of scenes on film...this time with video...
